This is my fourth Weber but my first Summit model. The previous Genesis models that I owned came with quite a bit of assembly required so I was surprised to see the Summit come off the truck pretty much all assembled. All I had to do as to follow the simple instructions for adding the left and right work surfaces/burner and a couple of other things and I was in business.

It works like all Webers ... just plain excellent! I still miss the left and right side fold up work surfaces that disappeared in the redesign that happened a couple of years back. If I have one complaint it would be that if you opt for the side burner you really have only one work surface and that is on the left side. Being right handed it would have been better for me to have the work surface on the right side and the burner on the left, but I can live with it.

Mine is the natural gas model and I have found little difference in cooking times from the propane models I enjoyed earlier.

Webers are not cheap, and you can buy a whole lot more grill (read hardware) for the money, but if you spend some time inspecting the other models and doing some comparisons you can quickly see why the Weber is a better product.

I use a charcoal smoker, but bought this for my father who really wanted the electric version. After a lot of trying, I could not convince him that an electric smoker was just a big old crock pot. He's glad he held out. He called me after using it and was thrilled with the results.

This is a really nice set of grilling tools with golf grips. I think the nicest thing about them is that if your golfer has a set type of grips that he/she uses it would be fairly easy to put those grips on. It is a very nice set. Only draw back is perhaps the tongs are not as springy as a standard pair but otherwise very nice set!

I was pleasantly surprised as the unit is bigger in real life than it appears in the pictures. This pit will hold fairly large pieces of wood that would otherwise fit in a wood stove or indoor fireplace. The construction is sturdy and from mostly good materials, as are all Weber products. The bottom ring that sits in the basin could have been less flimsy material in my opinion. We'll see how it stands up to heat. The top ring and all supports are stronger, thicker steel, as are the legs. The wood screws that hold the wood handles to their mounts are cheap. If you back one out, (say to turn the Weber logo right side up) it will strip. This was easily fixed with larger brass wood screws I had lying around the garage. I was slightly surprised that it had the "Made in China" stamp on the box. Most Weber replacement parts and charcoal grills I've seen are USA manufactured.
The ash-catcher is just for show, unless you want to drill holes in the bottom basin. I wouldn't recommend it. Anyway, it does look sharp. I'll put it to the fire test soon...
